How to Register Your Boat in Washington
To register a boat in Washington, you must apply within Before operating on public waters; non-residents must get temporary license by 61st day of purchase through the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL). Online registration is available. Registration is valid for 1 year (annual renewal).

Renewal is available through the same channels as initial registration — online (if available), in person, or by mail. Be sure to renew before your registration expires to avoid late fees.

Boater Safety Education Requirements
Washington requires a boater safety course. Anyone born after January 1, 1955, and 12+ years old operating a powered vessel with 15+ HP must carry a Washington State Boater Education Card (lifetime validity). The minimum age to operate a vessel is 12.
